The Documentary Kiss the Ground has a lot of positive information but pulls back from refuting the climate activist mantra that the primary focus needs to be on stopping carbon emissions.  Ignoring reality and what is possible is characteristic of the environmental left.  The movie on Netflix is well worth watching and sharing as it does a good job of telling the story of how the soil and plants are the key to resolving the issue of rising carbon dioxide levels.  It offers a realistic way forward that the Get Real Alliance promotes with some improvements that they don’t talk about.  I love the fact that they point out how positive for climate holistically managed cattle are with lots of good footage of Allan Savory and his successes around the world fighting desert.  There was also great pictures of the huge desert reclamation project done in China.  WE need good news and the film showcase a number of success stories as examples of what can be done if we focus on becoming regenerative in agriculture.

There were several omissions that could reduce carbon levels more and improve agriculture more.  That is remineralization using basalt rock dust on land of all types and large scale making of biochar from dead wood and plants.  Sadly the great charity http://www.remineralize.org has a long history of proof of how well rock dust boosts plants and soil life but so many including so called climate experts don’t know about it.  It was sad that the film didn’t interview people who advocate for rock dust like Joanna Campe and Thomas Goreau.  Their very good book Geotherapy has detailed scientific studies showing 2 or 3 times greater growth for tree seedlings.  Think what we could see with sharply higher tree growth sucking up more carbon dioxide than man emits while we still use fossil fuel.

We have real harmful policies being proposed by some Democrats to force America’s carbon emissions down not in the most sensible way of shutting down the remaining coal plants as fast as possible and replacing them with far cleaner natural gas plants along with solar but saving coal with a very distant future goal of zero carbon emissions.  The wind and solar industry and lobbies are wanting their technology to be mandated by law instead of winning on their relative merits.  Wind and solar rely on substantial federal tax credits for their adoption and are seeing a large growth rate while still at a low percentage of the power supply.  It is easy to say you are a low cost source of power looking at dividing peak power output by the capital cost but you must have backup power for the vast majority of time when solar photovoltaics don’t make much or any power.  I am writing this on a rainy day which would be impossible if we were relying on solar.  Some talk of battery backup and progress is being made on batteries but proponents site the declining cost of battery storage ignoring the fact the cost per kw comes down due to very short power delivery times.  Having a short power delivery time means a lower cost per kw delivered relative to the size of the battery.  Much is made that a large battery installation maybe able to supply 100,000 homes with power for 2 hours but that means that it can only provide power to 10,000 homes for twenty hours.  No discussion is made of how many extra solar panels will be need to charge batteries sufficient to provide power for days of cloudy weather.  Or the fact that there isn’t enough material to build anywhere near the number of batteries needed.

The other neglected major area of carbon sequestration is marine wetlands and reefs.  The Get Real Alliance promotes a large rejuvenation of these large carbon sinks so that they sequester more carbon.  You can learn more at http://www.globalreefalliance.org   They have lots of good information but don’t promote a major program like the Get Real Alliance does.

We need your support at the http://www.getrealalliance.org to spread the word and promote our positive solution to climate change that is workable, affordable and fast acting.  Do watch the good movie but know that we can do a lot more and drawdown atmospheric levels while we still use oil and gas.

David Munson Jr went on the Leah Belding Show to discuss the presidential elections and his take on the whole climate change crisis. Using the show as a platform to promote the Get Real Alliance, which is a non profit founded by David, himself. David hopes to gain money donation along with email signups to his newsletter, which teaches about soil care and benefits on how soil can help fight climate change. David Munson Jr  would also love to see the world go carbon negative even with the use of natural gas as the main source of energy, which would be 55% less harmful than coal, which is currently the major source of energy in most parts of the world.

Leah is now back with her new show, a call in format designed to deal with the current issues of today’s world and to gain feedback from her listening audience.

What are we missing? – How soil can play a helpful role in fighting against climate change

We look deeper into the whole situation dealing with climate change and a lot of the ideas being thrown around. Many ideas focusing on eliminating the harmful elements, which are believed to be causing climate change while moving forward with renewable energy sources that are “proven” to cause much less damages to the environment that can’t be restored. This is a false way of thinking especially knowing that soil plays a huge role absorbing the bad like carbon out of the air. In the video we go over the benefits of soil and its fight as the major player against climate change.

Focusing on a right climate change proposal that actually works

We need to get serious about climate change and the future direction we are headed. Currently we are focused on the wrong sources of energy that we consider renewable and safe energy to use, which would push us from using coal, but the real fight is proving that many of the well marketed renewable energy don’t work and natural gas, which is a way better solution than coal should be the natural energy we focus on to help fight against climate change.

Getting Real about solar

Today is a partly cloudy day which happens nearly a third of days in Dallas Texas where I am writing this.  Solar output on a day like today will be a small fraction of rated panel output.  This would mean that if the percentage of solar exceeds the reserve capacity of turbine generators then there would be blackouts either grid wide or rolling as Grid operators prefer.  That is unless there was battery capacity equal to many times actual electrical demand as battery systems are typically rated for a four hour power delivery time so six times more batteries will be needed to provide one cloudy days power needs.  There would also be a need for six times more solar arrays to charge the batteries.  And that is for just one cloudy day.  Here is a graph of actual solar radiation that FOI Group Llc measured as part  of its research to develop its solar energy patent.

Note this graph is solar radiation not actual electrical power output which would be fraction of these numbers.  But not thatsolar panels are rated at 1000 watts per square meter and on this graph the peak power reached for only minutes was 600.  Look how steep the curves are and how we had two days in a row of minimal power output.  This would mean that we need a huge number of extra panels to charge all the extra batteries.  So friends if we don’t have natural gas backup we just don’t have 24/7 power except at extreme cost of perhaps 30 times more expense than a typical solar farm that claims to produce a given amount of power.  The good news is that natural gas is abundant and emits the lowest carbon emissions by far.  Enemies of natural gas use love to talk about leaking methane but the truth is that most methane emissions come from oil wells which also produce some methane often in quantities too small to connect to a pipeline.  The Methane is dissolved in the oil and like a soft drink some of it is released in the oil storage tank.  There are abundant methane or natural gas consuming bacteria that live all over the world consuming methane which is released in abundance by Termites, ruminant animals and natural seeps into the air and ocean.  The huge releases of natural gas from the massive spill in the Gulf of Mexico years ago were consumed in the ocean by these bacteria and didn’t reach the surface to go into the air.  Now if we are concerned about methane emissions and desire to lower atmospheric levels we could breed these methane eaters and distribute them around oil wells, cattle feedyards and ranchers etc to try and boost their numbers which naturally adjust to the food supply. Artic tundra melting is a major source of methane emissions but much of it gets consumed quickly by the bacteria.  The microscopic world is largely unknown as it is so massive that it represents the bulk of weight of living things and is so numerous and hard to identify that much of it is unknown.

We need to rapidly phase out coal use to reduce carbon emissions right away and it is okay to build more solar as long as we have natural gas powerplants to back it up on those cloudy days and winter.  It is more efficient to heat our houses and our hot water with natural gas than electricity due to all the losses in power generation and electric lines.  Cooking with gas is far better as the natural gas flame gets hotter than an electric stove which makes for better cooking.  Lets Get Real about energy. The renewable solution that makes sense is biogas which is renewable natural gas from organic waste of all types.  But we can make the world carbon negative while we still use fossil fuels thru remineralization and improved agricultural and marine processes.  The job is a lot easier with a fast phaseout of coal in favor of reliable fast acting natural gas powerplants.  Join us to promote a sensible better way to resolve the climate crisis!!!!!  That is affordable.

On Giving Tuesday I hope you will support www.remineralize.org a great charity that is doing so much to promote the use of basalt rock dust to improve growing conditions for all plants.  We live in a demineralized world where plants and animals including us are unhealthy due to a lack of essential minerals.  Both natural processes such as rainfall leaching and man’s agricultural practices of allowing lots of soil erosion lead to minerals going into the ocean.  We can really solve the climate issue by remineralizing the land and even oceans so that healthy plants sequester more carbon and live longer keeping the carbon from returning to the air.  Please visit their website and sign up for the newsletter and most importantly make a donation on Giving Tuesday.  Whether you are concerned about climate or the quality of food or both this positive solution needs your support and promotion.  So few know if the great success possible with rock dust remineralization and sadly some scientists who do know about it dismiss it in favor of manufactured chemical fertilizers which can do so much harm to soil life and water quality.  Please also join us at www.getrealalliance.org to promote our positive carbon solution that proposes large scale remineralization funded by an affordable carbon tax.  Both organization need members and support to give us a future.

With elections over we now focus on the green new deal that has a lot wrong with it!

No matter who you voted for remember to always love your neighbor, which means to respect others and their choices. With a change in presidency comes a change in renewable energy policies. We have to do our best to make sure that solar and wind are not to be considered the top saviors while we can still use natural gases and other natural elements produced by the earth. Our goal is to also control carbon levels, which would help slow down climate change. We will need to focus on soil health which would be using rock dust and biochar for growth of plants and trees to help absorb CO2 levels.

Sunny Days – why solar energy isn’t the key

Solar energy promoters talk about how cheap solar has gotten but use the deceiving peak solar output at Midday to make that claim.  What isn’t said is how many days don’t have peak sun or much sun hitting the ground at all.  This website provides information for Texas Cities sunshine:

https://www.currentresults.com/Weather/Texas/annual-days-of-sunshine.php

You hear people talking about battery storage but what they don’t mention is how short term that battery storage is and how incredibly greater the number of batteries and extra solar panels to charge them would have to be to give power on even one cloudy day.  What the solar promoters don’t want to show you is how the solar radiation power curves really look.  Here are actual measurements taken on a minute by minute basis outside of Dallas Texas right before Christmas.

Look how sharply the power rises in the morning and quickly falls in the afternoon.  Only one “sunny” day that week and three near zero power days along with 3 days that were partly cloudy with big drops in power output that would mean brownouts or rolling blackouts if solar were a primary power source.

Already solar promoters are proposing a massive number of solar farms that they make money building and selling off to green investors.  Support the GET REAL Alliance to promote our realistic look at renewable energy and climate issues.  Time is short as the solar lobby is pushing for mandating solar by Government legislation and our power reliability may  be a thing of the past if we don’t speak up for more reliable renewable power along with expanded use of natural gas powerplants to backup solar and wind power.  As you can see from the graph we really need a Megawatt of natural gas powerplant for each Megawatt of solar to have reliable power but currently the economics of building natural gas powerplants are hindered by grid politics and in many places actual bans on new plants.

Elections are finally over and the clear winner of the presidency has very different ideas on how to fight climate change. For one a natural resource like natural gas will be used a lot less along with soil, which is used to control carbon dioxide levels. As the new president focuses on wind and solar power as the main objective, we are left to fight the battle to keep natural resources alive.

Key to success is respecting natural life around you which means love for the environment

The election is nearing and proposals on the environment are being thrown around with no real intentions. David further explains that with wrong proposals, no good will come from it and only cause harm while accelerating climate change. With concerns of climate change David reminds us to love our neighbor and to care about those around us while giving god the wheel to help steer us into the right direction.
